Blonde (Yellow) hair is very rare in Japan; in fact, Japanese people don’t have blonde hair unless they dye it or they have a non-Japanese descendant with blonde hair. Not following up on this fact, though, is the world of anime, where this color is present in both male and female characters, and is more often than not associated with the protagonist of the show. More often, it was associated with female protagonists.
In this article, we are going to bring a list of the 20 best blonde and yellow-haired anime characters that we know of. We’ll be using different sources and rank them based on their popularity and the general level of awesomeness they represent. The list is going to be pretty diverse, including various characters from various franchises and genres.

20. Meliodas
Franchise: Seven Deadly Sins
Meliodas is the Dragon of Wrath and Leader of the Seven Deadly Sins. He is the main protagonist of the series and was the owner of the Boar Hat Tavern. Her Sacred Treasure is the Lostvayne Demon Slicer and her Magical Ability is Full Counter. He was also the former Head of the Ten Commandments, as Meliodas of Charity and a former member of the Stigma Alliance. He is the older brother of Zeldris of Piety and the older son of the King of Demons.
19. Shion Karanomori
Franchise: Psycho-Pass
A latent criminal, Sibyl entrusted her with the role of Public Security Analyst, she also takes care of health and surveillance of the PSB. She colloquially calls Inspector Tsunemori “Akane-chan”. She and the Enforcer Kunizuka have an intimate relationship.
18. Serena
Franchise: Pokémon
Serena is the new heroine who travels with Ash in the Kalos region, along with Clemont and Bonnie. She takes up the female protagonist embodied by the player in Pokémon X and Y. She is a young beginner trainer, specialized in the Rhyhorn race and in the Pokémon Lounges, very common in the Kalos region. Although Ash does not recognize her when they meet, they got to know each other as children, in a holiday center in Pallet Town. She chooses Fennekin as her starting Pokémon and also has a Pancham and an Eevee which evolves into Sylveon.
17. Zoe Orimoto

Franchise: Digimon
Izumi (Zoe) Orimoto is one of six DigiDestined from Digimon Frontier who are given the ability to transform into Digimon. Zoe, enthusiastic from the beginning to be able to take part in an unexpected adventure, at the beginning of the series she receives the Spirit of Wind. She is in fifth grade and the Legendary Warrior whose Spirit she has is AncientKazemon.
Zoe is the only female of Frontier’s DigiDestined group, but that doesn’t seem to weigh on her. In fact the girl, since her return to Japan after a two-year stay in England, has always suffered from problems in being around people, unable to make stable friendships due to her too much character. strong and some disappointments suffered by girls who had deluded her on the possibility of finally building a real relationship.
This had created her reticence in building friendships; her stay in the group, however, quickly makes her change her beliefs. Zoe is a kind, sunny and tenacious girl who, by her own admission of hers, when she gets it into her head to do one thing it goes all the way. These qualities of her will often be very helpful in the cause of her chosen children. Thanks to her experience in England, Zoe is fluent in English and often uses words and expressions of that language.
16. Hideyoshi Nagachika
Franchise: Tokyo Ghoul
Also nicknamed Hide, Hideyoshi is Ken’s best friend. After Ken’s disappearance, he was hired at CCG as an assistant thanks to his great knowledge of ghouls that he was passionate about. He dies at the end of season 2, killed by Noro in the anime. In the manga, Kaneki being starved and weakened after his hard fight against Amon, he runs into Hideyoshi in the sewers.
Hide disappears, leaving Ken alone to heal from his wound against Amon. He finds himself tasting like blood in his mouth and wonders what happened. Hide was presumed dead. In volume 15 of Tokyo Ghoul:re we find Hide alive but with the bottom of his face disfigured.
15. Tsunade
Franchise: Naruto
Tsunade then becomes the fifth Hokage of Konoha, and his face appears on the “Hokage wall”. Later, she takes Sakura Haruno as a student and teaches her medical ninjutsu, as well as the secret to her phenomenal strength. By dint of staying with her, Sakura also inherits her temperament, which more than once frightens Naruto, Jiraiya or Kakashi.
Ino Yamanaka also becomes his disciple to learn medical ninjutsu. She also summons slugs to protect villagers and ninjas during Pain’s attack, and uses her colossal chakra supply to heal ninjas and the wounded. Attacked by Shurado (the “murderer” of Jiraiya) and at the end of her strength (having consumed all her chakra for the inhabitants of Konoha), she is saved in extremis by Naruto who destroys Pain’s motorized body in one fell swoop. Naruto then offers him to go drink a tea and rest.

Having consumed too much chakra, she finds herself at the end of the fights in a coma and can no longer ensure her load of Hokage. As the daimyo of the Land of Fire prepares to name Kakashi Hokage after Danzo’s death, Gai steps in to announce that Tsunade has woken up.
14. Minato Namikaze
Franchise: Naruto
Already as a child, Minato wanted to be a great Hokage to have the recognition of the village. He meets at the ninja academy his future wife Kushina Uzumaki coming from the village of Uzushio to become the receptacle of Kyûbi. She was removed soon after by ninjas from Kumo1 for her special chakra (the specificity of this chakra is not clearly explained).
Despite the number of ninjas sent to save her, Minato is the only one to spot the locks of hair left by the young woman so that she can be tracked. He easily defeats his captors and takes the opportunity to confess that he has always admired her red hair, yet the source of much mockery from other children.
He is trained by Jiraiya, who will become the godfather of his future son Naruto and becomes the Hokage when the Third Hokage, wishing to pass the hand, chooses him instead of Orochimaru. A Jōnin, he was the trainer of another exceptional ninja, Kakashi Hatake, and of Rin and Obito Uchiha.
Before becoming Hokage, he participated in the Third Shinobi World War, and notably met on the battlefield, the future Fourth Raikage A and his adopted brother Killer Bee. The future Raikage recognizes in Minato the only ninja able to surpass him in speed, and Minato appreciates the qualities of combatant of Bee.
13. Takeru Takaishi

Franchise: Digimon
Takeru “T.K.” Takaishi is a fictional character from the Digimon Adventure series. He is one of the main characters of the first two seasons. His Digimon partner is Patamon, and he possesses the Symbol of Hope. T.K., at the height of his 8 years, is the youngest DigiDestined of the first season;
Despite his young age, T.K. is quite independent and does not like his brother Matt, who is also a DigiDestined, to protect him from the dangers of the Digital World. In addition, T.K. shows great affection for Tai, and even asks him in one episode if he wants to be his big brother, which causes Matt’s jealousy.
He is also very close to Kari, Tai’s little sister, with whom he will be in love in the second season. Aside from his dealings with the DigiDestined, T.K. is very attached to Patamon, and will suffer greatly from his demise when he transforms into a Digi-Egg after the final fight against Devimon.
12. Shinji Hirako
Franchise: Bleach
The first Vard to approach Ichigo. He is extroverted and gives the appearance of a great relaxed seducer, always remaining nonchalant. Despite frequent and violent arguments, he is very close to Hiyori. He was the captain of the 5th Division 110 years ago and Aizen was its lieutenant. A victim of Aizen’s machinations, Shinji is the last captain to succumb to holofication.
Saved by Kisuke Urahara, Shinji becomes the de facto leader of the Vizards as they go into exile in Karakura in secret. During the Battle of Karakura, Shinji leads the Vizards to the front lines and personally confronts Aizen through his shikai. After the battle, he regains his vacant position as captain but struggles to bond with his vice-captain Hinamori, who finds it difficult to accept that Aizen has been permanently replaced.
He takes part in the war against the Quincys and confronts Bambietta Basterbin with Captain Komamura.
11. Sanji
Franchise: One Piece
Sanji is a very talented 19-year-old cook (21 in part 2 of the manga), born March 2, originally from a noble family in North Blue but raised in East Blue. He outshines every cook he has met except perhaps his mentor, the red-footed Zeff who taught him everything when Sanji worked at Baratie. He has a deep respect for everything related to the art of cooking.
The ingredients, the tools, the preparation, the cooking – everything is sacred and anyone who flouts this sacredness draws Sanji’s wrath. He also has a reflex, sometimes unhappy, he always cooks for hungry people, even if they are dangerous pirates, a consequence of one of his personal experiences. He started smoking when he was 10 years old, in order to show his “maturity” to Zeff.
Sanji has a big weak point: women. If his attitude may seem chivalrous when he protects pretty girls, the latter totally turn his head and never fail to take advantage of it.
10. Alphonse Elric
Franchise: Fullmetal Alchemist

Al’s personality evolves enormously over the course of the manga and especially each time he finds himself separated from his brother Ed. Indeed, first more or less passive and relegated to the supporting role, he takes a more important place after being kidnapped by Greed and his gang to unlock the secret of what he thought to be immortality.
But the military intervention will prevent Greed from knowing more. It is Martel’s death which will awaken Al’s memory and allow him to remember the Truth which will have the consequence of allowing him to practice alchemy like Ed and his master, without a circle of transmutation. Al’s role will thus begin to gain importance. But, the real turning point in Al’s mind takes place during his second separation from Ed.
While the latter leaves for the ruins of Xerxes, Alphonse remains in Central City and finds himself embroiled in a confrontation between the Homunculus. and the Roy Mustang team. He later restores his body thanks to Ed sacrificing his skills.
9. Izuru Kira
Franchise: Bleach
Izuru Kira is the 3rd Division lieutenant. He was first under the orders of Ichimaru Gin, then, after the latter’s betrayal, under the orders of Amagaī Shūsuke (in the anime). Izuru Kira will find himself without a captain again after Amagaī’s suicide. Izuru was born into a family of lesser nobility, his parents died when he was young.
Orphaned when he entered the shinigami academy, the young Izuru made a place for himself among the best students of his class. While at the academy, Kira befriends Hinamori Momo and Abarai Renji who were in the same class as him. They trained and often spent time together. During a real-world outing to practice Soul Burial, he found himself in a group with Renji and Hinamori, under the tutelage of Hisagi Shuhei. Attacked by Hudge Hollows, and despite orders to flee, he heroically stayed with Renji and Hinamori alongside Shuhei in an attempt to defend him from the attackers.
They were saved at the last minute by Captain Aizen and his then vice-captain, Ichimaru Gin. From then on, fascinated by the strength of this charismatic captain, the three of them decided to become powerful shinigami, able to become vice-captain. After graduating, Izuru, along with Momo and Renji, was integrated into the 5th Division. Kira stayed there until Ichimaru Gin became the Captain of the 3rd Division.
He thus decided to be under his orders and was named vice-captain, after a passage in the 4th division, of which he kept some aptitudes for the care.
8. Winry Rockbell
Franchise: Fullmetal Alchemist
Her parents were doctors and had been requisitioned by the army during the Ishbal War. They treated the wounded without distinction of camp, which earned them the respect of all, including the inhabitants of Ishbal. They were unfortunately killed by Scar, who had just regained consciousness after receiving their treatment, gone completely mad when instead of his arm he saw his brother’s.
Since that day, Winry has been raised by her paternal grandmother, Pinako Rockbell, a famous automail maker. Winry is passionate about mechanics and makes it clear to Ed, with the help of a wrench, that his mechanical parts must not be damaged. Despite the fact that she seems aggressive, she worries a lot for Ed and Al. Indeed, if they do not tell her much about their adventures, she realizes that they are putting themselves in danger to achieve their goal.
In volume 12, she realizes her feelings for Edward. She doesn’t often confess them but when she does, Edward doesn’t hear her. Nevertheless, the feelings she has towards him are mutual. In the last volume, we see her with Edward, they are parents of two children.
7. Van Hohenheim
Franchise: Fullmetal Alchemist
Hohenheim defines himself as a monster, he appears to be immortal even though it is not explicitly said. (He is shot at point blank range and yet only his clothes are damaged). The one who leads the homunculi, calling himself Father, looks a lot like him and the first reaction is to think that they are the same person but the doubts are raised when Ed and Al find themselves in Father’s haunt and where the latter seems delighted that ‘Hohenheim is still alive and has had children.
In the penultimate chapter, we learn that Hohenheim was in fact a slave in the city of Xerxes. He was number 23. He worked in the laboratories and it was there that he met Father, who was then a Homunculus in the form of a black gaseous cluster (resembling Pride) in a vial. Father will take advantage of him and in exchange for his knowledge, he will ask Hohenheim to put him in touch with the king of Xerxes.
Father manipulated both of them to become almost omnipotent; he was later stopped thanks to Hohenheim’s help, who sacrificed his life to save his sons.
6. Riza Hawkeye
Franchise: Fullmetal Alchemist
Riza is none other than the daughter of Mustang’s master alchemy who, at the time of her death, entrusted the care and safety of young Riza to the future Flame Alchemist. However, the situation in which she finds herself is paradoxical. Indeed, she protects the colonel to help him achieve his objectives but he asked her to kill him if he crossed certain limits. A large tattoo covers most of her back.
There are written the notes on the ultimate incandescent alchemy that his father did not have time to entrust to his disciple. Riza will hand them over to Mustang, which will allow him to become the Flame Alchemist. Following the Ishbal War where she participated as a sniper, she asked Mustang to burn the tattoo, which he did in part, not only to prevent the appearance of a new Flame Alchemist.
5. Yamato Ishida

Franchise: Digimon
Matt Ishida is a character in the Digimon fictional universe. He is part of the Digimon Adventure group, and reappears in Digimon Adventure 02. Matt is 10 years old. He is blond and rather tall. He has a little brother, TK, with whom he shares a very close relationship, although protecting TK is an overly obsession with him, until he realizes that his brother has grown up and can manage.
He plays the harmonica with talent, and has Digimon Gabumon as a partner. Lonely and rebellious, Matt is often estranged from others, and almost always disputes Tai’s decisions: although the two are friends deep down, their rivalry is so intense that it sometimes comes to blows. He is also withdrawn, reveals little about his feelings and fears becoming attached to people since his parents’ divorce.
4. Kisuke Urahara
Franchise: Bleach
Kisuke Urahara is a mysterious figure. He was exiled from Soul Society and owns a store of objects that come from it, a store that he runs thanks to two children, Jinta Hanakari and Ururu Tsumigaya, as well as a man named Tsukibashi Tessai (Former chief of Necromancers – Captain of Kido). Urahara is a longtime friend of Yoruichi.
Urahara is eternally banished from Soul Society, because he endangered it with his experiments, but also because Soul Society’s decisions about dealing with the results of his experiments are not right for him. Note that he also helped the current Vizards not to become Hollows, which is the main reason for his exile.
Later in the story, we will learn more about this character, about his past, about his powers: he is the former captain of the 12th division of Gotei 13, founder and first president of the scientific research section. Today, he is still a brilliant inventor (notably Gikais for the shinigami who come to earth). One hundred years ago, when he came to the head of his division, Hiyori was his lieutenant. He himself created and tested the technique to obtain the bankai in three days, which Ichigo is the second to master, in less than three days.
After Ichigo loses Rukia’s powers as a result of his encounter with Byakuya, he will help her bring forth her own shinigami powers, breaking her chain and speeding up the process of the soul’s hollow transformation. He then spent ten days with Ichigo training him in sword fighting.
3. Usagi Tsukino / Sailor Moon
Franchise: Sailor Moon
Ten thousand years ago, Sailor Moon was still just Princess Serenity, heir to the Silver Millennium, the kingdom on the moon. She is surrounded by Queen Serenity, her mother, and her four bodyguards, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, guided by Sailor Venus. The Princess Serenity admires the Earth from afar, which she finds absolutely wonderful.
At a ball, she meets Prince Endymion, the Prince of Earth. They fall in love with each other and live their love underground. But one day, Metallia and Queen Beryl manipulate the Terrans, who end up invading the Moon. Prince Endymion comes to Princess Serenity’s rescue, but the two lovers end up perishing along with all the other inhabitants of the Moon.
Queen Serenity uses her last strength to seize the Silver Crystal and sends her daughter’s soul to Earth to be reincarnated in the future. Sensing the awakening of Beryl’s Metallia at the end of the twentieth century in Tokyo, Luna, a pet of Queen Serenity (Queen Serenity) also comes out of her torpor and goes in search of the Sailor warriors.
2. Edward Elric
Franchise: Fullmetal Alchemist
Edward (Ed) and his one year younger brother Alphonse Elric (Al) are drawn to alchemy from an early age. Edward hates his father, Hohenheim, who has abandoned his family. Very young, Al and Ed will rummage through their father’s books and gradually learn the basics of alchemy. Their mother will suffer from an illness and will die thereafter.
At the age of eleven, after taking lessons with their master (Izumi Curtis), Ed and Al attempt to revive their mother through human transmutation, a practice that is totally prohibited and which is the ultimate taboo in the field of alchemy. This one fails. Ed will lose his left leg there, Al his whole body. To save Al, Ed sealed the latter’s soul in armor with a seal made with his own blood, but still had to sacrifice his right arm to make it possible.
Since then, the two brothers have been looking for the Philosopher’s Stone, which would allow them to find their lost members without worrying about the rule of equivalent exchange. Ed’s limbs were replaced by mechanical prostheses made by their childhood friend, Winry Rockbell.

In the universe of the series, Naruto is a young ninja from the village of Konoha. Host to the nine-tailed fox demon, a creature that has attacked the village in the past, he is rejected by the other villagers. His ambition is to become Hokage, the village chief, in order to gain the respect of the inhabitants.
With a cheerful and determined character, he manages to befriend several ninjas of the village over the course of the series, and in particular with Sasuke Uchiha, whom he considers his brother and rival. As he progresses in the series, he manages to be accepted by the inhabitants of the village, until he becomes a hero to them after protecting them. He ends up fulfilling his dream by becoming the Seventh Hokage.
